Pep Guardiola will surely be upset as Dani Olmo prepares to sit out for RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League clash against Manchester City.

The Spain international will miss Wednesday’s encounter at the Red Bull Arena due to injury – according to the Bundesliga’s official website.

So, why will Pep Guardiola be disappointed to see Dani Olmo miss out for RB Leipzig against Manchester City? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, Guardiola may also feel a tinge of relief to see his fellow countryman miss out, as he is one of Marco Rose’s most dangerous players.

However, we believe the 52-year-old will be more upset than relieved, amid reports he is considering a move to bring Olmo to the Etihad Stadium.

It was Mundo Deportivo in Spain who claimed that the €30m (£26m) forward is admired by Guardiola, and the Santpedor-born tactician was actually planning to sign the RB Leipzig No.7 if Bernardo Silva left during the summer transfer window.

Guardiola was presumably keen to see how Olmo performs against his Manchester City side – arguably the best team on the planet right now after last season’s treble.

Josko Gvardiol shone in this fixture last term, scoring as RB Leipzig held the Citizens to a 1-1 draw inside the Red Bull Arena at the Round of 16 stage, in what was basically an audition for the Croatian.

He passed with flying colours, prompting Manchester City to spend £77.6m on his services in August.

There is no better test for any potential Guardiola signing than going up against Manchester City, so the Spaniard is surely disheartened to hear that he won’t be able to see Olmo in action.

Manchester City could sign Dani Olmo in 2024

Of course, the aforementioned Silva ended up staying at Manchester City this summer, but he could still be on the move in 2024.

According to le10sport in France, the Portugal international has agreed personal terms with PSG, and now has a £50m release clause in his contract, which the French giants can easily afford given their wealth.

Therefore, an exit for Silva is likely next summer, and if a move to Paris does materialise, don’t be surprised to see Guardiola move for Olmo as his replacement based on what Mundo Deportivo reported.
