Renowned Spanish journalist Guillem Balague has revealed that there has not been a full breakdown in the relationship between Joao Cancelo and Pep Guardiola, with there still being hope that he plays for Man City in the long-term.
Unless you have been living under a rock, it is common knowledge that the Portuguese international, who was recently linked with a switch to AC Milan has joined Bayern Munich on loan, with an option to buy worth £62 million.
However, a key reason behind the sudden exit, albeit on a temporary basis for the 28-year-old was due to a training bust-up with the Catalan boss, amidst other disciplinary issues. While Cancelo tried to put cold water over this story in his first press-conference at Bayern, his wife aimed a subtle dig at Guardiola on Instagram, as relayed by HITC Football.
Balague says Cancelo & Guardiola have not had a full relationship breakdown
It seems as if journalist Guillem Balague sides with the Joao Cancelo version of events, revealing in a thread on Twitter that his relationship with Pep Guardiola has not fully broken down, with a return to Man City on a long-term basis still on the cards.
“The relationship between Pep [Guardiola] and him [Cancelo] has not broken down fully but he has been allowed to leave for 6 months to see if it can be recovered at the levels of confidence and attitude necessary to stay as a City player”, said Guillem Balague.
However, he also emphasised that Guardiola likes to make changes in terms of personnel to ensure that the hunger within the group remains intact and if the ex-Juventus star does not change his ways, he could be out of the door.
Despite Guillem Balague, who wrote Pep Guardiola’s biography (Pep Guardiola: Another Way of Winning) being a reliable voice, it does seem highly unlikely that Joao Cancelo, who was clearly out of order will be allowed into the Man City camp again.
