Matty Warhurst is a name on the lips of many at Manchester City right now after a stunning start to the 2023/24 campaign.
The 17-year-old has been so impressive that he’s even made it onto the Guardian’s coveted Next Generation list.
So, what was written about Manchester City prospect Matty Warhurst? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, the teenager has been named as the best talent currently at Manchester City by the Guardian’s Jamie Jackson.
Warhurst was described as a “lethal” frontman by the Guardian – who add that he can also operate in the wide areas.
Jackson wrote: “Billed as a ‘traditional No 9’ by Manchester City, the Stalybridge-born player has not stopped scoring in his opening campaign for the club’s under-18s, registering in each of the four age-group Premier League fixtures at the time of writing for a tally of six goals including a hat-trick in the 6-0 win over Middlesbrough in mid-September.
“Tall and pacy, Warhust can also operate wide to provide width and is lethal with free-kicks at range. This flexibility may be vital if he is to break into the first team picture, with the likes of Erling Haaland ahead of him.”

The City Football Academy gem also recently made his debut in the EFL Trophy, which is actually an Under-21 competition.
Clearly, those at the Etihad Stadium have a lot of faith in Warhurst – who we recently profiled – as they feel comfortable enough to use him in age groups above his own.
Manchester City should look to loan Matty Warhurst
As the Guardian allude to, Haaland makes it difficult for any promising striker at Manchester City to get a sniff.

Therefore, we believe the Citizens should look to loan Warhurst out if he keeps shining in the youth ranks, as there is nothing like senior football to test a precocious talent.
Hopefully, the Staylybridge-born prodigy can continue his superb goalscoring efforts this season.
