Pep Guardiola was once a top holding midfielder, who then turned into an elite manager – and the Spaniard reckons the same may happen with Manchester City star Rodri one day.
Guardiola was speaking ahead of today’s absolutely huge game with Liverpool at Anfield.
City have the chance to go top of the Premier League with a win, but it will be a huge task given how good Liverpool are at home.
But the motivation to leapfrog the Reds is there, with Trent Alexander-Arnold making some controversial comments earlier this week. Arsenal also beating Brentford on Saturday night is another reason today’s game is colossal.
Pep will need his top stars to shine, and one such player is Rodri.
Rodri is arguably City’s most important player and Pep sang his praises ahead of today’s game, branding him a ‘top, top, top, top-class player’.
He also suggested that Rodri could one day become a successful manager…
Man City maestro Rodri could become top manager some day according to Pep Guardiola

Rodri is one of the leaders in the dressing room at Manchester City.
The 27-year-old has been seen several times giving speeches and getting his teammates up for games in behind-the-scenes videos released by the club.
It’s clear he is someone who commands a lot of respect, and his influence for this team is huge.
Pep was asked whether Rodri could actually become a successful manager some day a bit like himself and Xabi Alonso, who is making waves at Bayer Leverkusen.
Pep said (via mancity.com): “He can be yeah – always I had the theory good holding midfielders can become good managers, because they have to see the game in the whole perspective.
“It depends on the desire they have to do it, of course.”
Rodri becoming a top manager would be no shock
It wouldn’t be any surprise if Rodri went into management and became a success.
Simply put, Rodri is a pupil of Pep Guardiola who is arguably the greatest manager of all-time. When he comes to hang up his boots, Rodri would have learned so much from his fellow Spaniard.
Rodri is an extremely intelligent individual – that is evident in the way he plays the game and also in the way he speaks. The maestro also has a degree in business administration, further suggesting high levels of intelligence.
We shall see what he decides to do. Whether he goes into punditry or management, he surely going to be good.
