Gael Clichy says Pep Guardiola changed how he sees football
Branded as ‘amazing’ by Mateo Kovacic, the Spaniard is widely considered as the best manager in the world.
In fact, many even view the two-time treble-winning coach as the greatest tactician in the history of the game.
Now, Gael Clichy has given an insight into his time working with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

“My final year at City was Pep Guardiola’s first season at the club. I played more games for him in a season than I did for any City manager. But I have contrasting feelings about that year with Pep”, he said.
Gael Clichy added that he still rues not having had the chance to have been managed by Pep Guardiola for longer.
“I am grateful for what I learned from him, but I wish it could have been more than one season. He ignited a spark in the way I see football, and made me want to learn even more. When I watch football now, I cannot distance myself from what I’ve seen and what I learned from Pep.”
“All of that, in one word, would be details. Pep is all about the details. However, you want to play, no matter your ideas, your vision, your love for a certain way of playing, details will take you there.”
Pep Guardiola views football like nobody else
It is unsurprising to see Gael Clichy speak about Pep Guardiola in such glowing terms as the manner in which he sees the game is like no other.
That is why Guardiola’s philosophy and tactical ideas have inspired a whole host of managers around the world.
As the decorated coach continues to innovate his tactics season after season, the game just plays catch-up behind him.
