It has been reported that Aymeric Laporte now looks set to leave Manchester City.

This comes from journalist Dean Jones on the Ranks FC podcast, after a claim was made on Sunday that Josko Gvardiol had agreed terms to sign for Pep Guardiola’s men.

As a result, it seems like Manchester City have prepared to sell Aymeric Laporte ahead of next season.

Aymeric Laporte now guaranteed for Manchester City exit

Branded as an ‘elite player’ by Breaking The Lines, the 29-year-old has been previously claimed to have been ‘frustrated’ at the Etihad Stadium due to a lack of playing time.

Starting a mere 11 games in the Premier League last season, the Spanish internationally fell at the bottom of the Sky Blues’ pecking order, with even new-boy Manuel Akanji favoured over him.

“I think he [Josko Gvardiol] is one of the most well-rounded defenders on the continent, I don’t know what that means for Aymeric Laporte? I think it would probably spell the end of Laporte’s tenure?” Jones’ co-host said.

“He is leaving, he is leaving yeah,” Jones added.

It seems likely that Aymeric Laporte will be moved on

Of course, whether Manchester City are even willing to sell Aymeric Laporte depends on whether they can secure Josko Gvardiol’s services.

If not, City would be foolish to let one of the best defenders in the world leave the club.

Then again, the treble-winners have a well-known policy of allowing discontent players looking for exits leave, as long as they can bank a satisfactory fee.

With Aymeric Laporte being in his prime as well as a proven top-class player in every aspect, Manchester City should not have the hardest possible time in finding a buyer for him.

As a result, it seems like the best solution for all parties involved, especially with Pep Guardiola favouring other defenders at his disposal as well for Aymeric Laporte to say goodbye to the treble-winners.
