Manchester City skipper Ilkay Gundogan has lavished praise on to Pep Guardiola ahead of his side’s Champions League final against Inter Milan.

The Spaniard’s date with destiny on Saturday could confirm his status as arguably the greatest manager of all time, as he has a chance of becoming the first coach to have won two trebles.

It seems like Ilkay Gundogan already believes no coach is on par with Pep Guardiola already in a video with the club’s official YouTube channel.

Ilkay Gundogan says Pep Guardiola is the best manager of all time

Sergio Busquets, who was promoted by the Manchester City boss said that in his opinion, he was the ‘best manager in the world’ even during his time at Barcelona B.

That goes to show how special a coach Guardiola, branded as ‘ruthless’ by the i Newspaper is, and his trophy cabinet and impact on football emphasises this very fact.

Now, Ilkay Gundogan has also paid Pep Guardiola the ultimate compliment, seven years into working with him at Manchester City.

“I can’t add anything new regarding his attitude, his mentality or his way of working. It’s been documented clearly in black and white. His success speaks for itself and he is probably the best coach, at least in my lifetime that anyone has seen.”

Pep Guardiola has a strong case to be regarded as the greatest due to his impact on the game

Even forgetting Guardiola’s glorious spells in Spain and Germany, his time in England emphasises how much he has revolutionised football.

Ilkay Gundogan is not far-fetched in calling Pep Guardiola the greatest manager in his lifetime at least, as his philosophy has now become ingrained right from grassroot level all the way up to the Premier League.

Ideals such as playing out from the back were foreign in English football but in today’s day and age, if any top side in particular lacks a ball-playing goalkeeper, it is likely that they are outdated.

This stems from Pep Guardiola, who has a number of his disciplines in Erik ten Hag, Roberto De Zerbi and even managers like Graham Potter in the past that have been inspired by his style of play.
