Branded as ‘unreal’ by Rio Ferdinand, the Englishman has started the 2023/2024 season in cracking touch, taking on the mantel of shouldering the Sky Blues’ creative burden ever since Kevin De Bruyne’s long-term injury.

The 23-year-old is playing more centrally, due to De Bruyne’s absence and closer to his natural position, he is looking the part.

“I think Phil. Phil Foden. If I take one. He’s looking really good and he is so good. He just needs to show everyone and if he can, we’ll see.”

Phil Foden could have his best season till date at Manchester City

Erling Haaland is fair in picking Phil Foden, who has started the new campaign in fine touch for Manchester City.

But the difference this season in comparison to the others is that the treble-winner is likelier to feature more in either midfield or a central role rather than in the forward line.

Commendably, Foden has had an excellent career so far, despite being deployed on either wing or a false nine.

However, for the Stockport-born attacker to unleash the best version of himself, it would be advisable to utilise his presence in a more central position.

Thankfully, Phil Foden is now playing in such areas and running the show for his boyhood club.

After injuries, rotation and an eventual settled XI in the second half of the season held Foden back last season, despite having put up impressive numbers, he has the golden opportunity to make his doubters look silly this campaign.
