Chris Sutton has said that Pep Guardiola must have spotted an obvious flaw to have decided to have sold Cole Palmer to Chelsea.

Speaking on the Daily Mail’s It’s All Kicking Off podcast, the prospect of the decision to have sold the Englishman this summer being a mistake was presented.

However, Chris Sutton gave Pep Guardiola the benefit of the doubt as he believes he must have had a reason to have offloaded Cole Palmer.

The 21-year-old, who the Sky Blues let go for a fee of £40 million (The Athletic) had started the season on fire, bagging goals in the FA Community Shield as well as the UEFA Super Cup.

However, Palmer was sold to Chelsea, where he has also looked like a rare bright spark, scoring the opener against Arsenal most recently.

When Chris Sutton was quizzed about whether Manchester City and Pep Guardiola made an error by letting Cole Palmer leave, he completely disagreed with this notion.

“From what I’ve seen of him or what I saw of him at Manchester City, I get what you’re saying, okay? But then you’re sort of questioning Pep’s decision-making there?”

“He must be deficient at something in Pep’s mind, whether its fitting into the Pep Guardiola style of play, whatever it is. But on the face of things, I do understand what you’re saying.”

Chris Sutton continued to back Pep Guardiola over the decision to sell Cole Palmer, saying, “He’s got to be good enough and while he is a talented player, how can we sit here in this moment in time and sort of questioning Pep Guardiola? Champions League winner last season, they’ve won the Premier League for the last three seasons, whatever it is and he doesn’t get a lot of wrong.”

“So maybe, should we wait a bit longer before we cast judgement?”
