Steph Houghton lavished praise on to Phil Foden after his remarkable display for Manchester City in their 1-0 victory against Newcastle United.

Speaking on City’s official YouTube channel, the pundit gave her opinion on the treble-winner’s performance in midfield.

Steph Houghton was in awe of Manchester City technician Phil Foden as he stood out against Newcastle United on Saturday night.

Steph Houghton raves about Phil Foden after Manchester City beat Newcastle

Branded as ‘absolutely phenomenal’ by Danny Murphy, the Englishman was a class apart from minute one against Eddie Howe’s side.

Causing mayhem on the half-turn, the Englishman constantly found space in the pockets, drove with the ball at his feet, created chances and assisted Julian Alvarez’s winner.

Steph Houghton was pleased witnessing Phil Foden in a more central role as Manchester City vanquished an in-form Newcastle side.

“I think we’ve all wanted him to have a go in that position. For me, not even just picking up that position, it’s what he does with the ball after that. One of his biggest strengths is driving at players and getting across players, and making those finals passes. And he was superb tonight.”

Phil Foden grabbed his opportunity with both hands

Much like Steph Houghton, several Manchester City supporters were overjoyed to witness Phil Foden fill in for Kevin De Bruyne with aplomb in the middle of the park against Newcastle.

The five-time Premier League winner has big shoes to fill for a couple of months with the Belgian set to be sidelined for at least half the season.

However, against Newcastle, Foden exhibited no signs of nerves, running the show and proving why the clamour for him to be deployed in his natural position has been constant over the years.

While the likes of Mateo Kovacic and Rodri were terrific on the night as well, Phil Foden was a level above the rest.

As long as the jewel in Manchester City’s crown continues to raise the bar in this manner, even an all-time great such as Kevin De Bruyne may not be missed.
