It has been reported that Manchester City outcast Joao Cancelo is now set to join Barcelona on loan with an option to buy.

This comes from Fabrizio Romano as the £60 million (Telegraph) man’s future has been up in the air throughout the summer transfer window.

But now it seems like Manchester City and Barcelona have reached an agreement over a season-long loan deal for Joao Cancelo.

Fabrizio Romano says Joao Cancelo to Barcelona loan deal is all but official

Branded as an ‘amazing player’ by Bernardo Silva, some felt that Pep Guardiola and the 29-year-old would mend their reportedly fractured relationship this summer.

However, it seems like all parties involved have decided to move their separate ways, especially after City’s success with playing four centre-backs in defence for a majority of their previous campaign.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has given his ‘Here We Go’ to a loan deal with an option to buy involving Joao Cancelo and Barcelona.

It has also been mentioned that both clubs are ‘exchanging documents’ to get the deal over the line on Monday.

The decorated defender is set to travel to Barcelona tonight.

Best for all parties involved that Joao Cancelo is moving on

For Manchester City, it is best that Joao Cancelo has signed for Barcelona on loan as he simply does not have a place in their system anymore.

Apart from the reported rift between Cancelo and Guardiola, their current system excludes attacking full-backs on either side in any case.

Nor does there seem to be any plan to incorporate such a profile.

For Barcelona, they get their hands on a truly elite player, especially to bolster their side at right-back, where they have been in need of strengthening.

As for Joao Cancelo himself, he could now start for one of the biggest clubs in the world, despite his reputation being at an all-time low since his underwhelming loan move to Bayern.
