Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola described Kevin De Bruyne as a “legend” after his side secured a last-gasp win against Newcastle United.
The Spaniard lauded De Bruyne in his post-match press conference (via BeanymanSports), as who reminded the world of his undeniable genius in a game-changing cameo against the Magpies.
Pep Guardiola also hailed the midfield maestro’s vision, tremendous quality and threat in the final third after the clash.
Pep Guardiola calls Kevin De Bruyne a “legend” after Manchester City defeated Newcastle
Jack Grealish also admitted that he has “never seen anything like” the masterclass from the Belgian in the aftermath of City’s dramatic triumph.
With a goal and an assist to his name at St. James’ Park, De Bruyne’s performance was an indicator of why he is widely regarded as the best midfielder in the world.
After Manchester City won their third Premier League in a row by beating Newcastle United, Pep Guardiola heaped praise on Kevin De Bruyne.

“I’m so disappointed at him [Kevin De Bruyne] and upset, and grumpy because the free-kick, [he] didn’t score a goal”, Guardiola joked in his post-match press conference (via BeanymanSports).
“Apart from that, I had the feeling that he’s not ready for 90 minutes. After five months, we cannot forget. The people say, ‘Okay, he’s ready. I can play after five months.’ It’s not the case. So, that’s why I believe it was Huddersfield and still in that situation but we have the control of the game and he’s started the impact from the last 30, 35 minutes.”
Pep Guardiola went on to call Manchester City maestro Kevin De Bruyne a “legend” after his masterful showing against Newcastle.
“For the goal, the assist, how many times [he] arrived in the byline for the crosses, so he’s a special player, he’s a legend, how much he’s beloved for our fans, for all of us, for people and he’s fresh in his mind because five months is a lot of time and hopefully, second part of the season he can help us to be there until the end [of the title race].”
It’s fair to assume that a majority of Sky Blues supporters around the world would echo Pep Guardiola’s praise towards the former VFL Wolfsburg attacker.
Kevin De Bruyne will remain a threat even if his athleticism declines
As Pep Guardiola revealed, Kevin De Bruyne is not currently fit enough to play 90 minutes of football after returning from his long-term hamstring injury, as was the case against Newcastle.
But it was noticeable that despite De Bruyne not looking his quickest and seeming tired at times, in our view, a potential decline in his athleticism will not halt him from being a threat.
For starters, with the treble-winner having an exceptionally expansive range of passing, he is also capable of playing in a deeper role going forward, as he showcased against Newcastle.
In addition, Kevin De Bruyne’s incredible vision, elite chance-creation and thunderous ability to strike the ball could ensure that even if he slows down, opposition sides will have a nightmare trying to stop him.
