Shaun Goater has lavished praise upon Phil Foden after his sublime display for Manchester City against Nottingham Forest.

Speaking to City’s official YouTube channel after the contest, the pundit gave his views on the 23-year-old’s outing in his side’s 2-0 victory.

It’s safe to say that Shaun Goater was left wowed by Phil Foden, who stood out for Manchester City against Nottingham Forest.

Shaun Goater raves about ‘brilliant’ Phil Foden after Manchester City beat Nottingham Forest

Branded as ‘unreal’ by Rio Ferdinand, the Englishman opened the scoring in style with a breathtaking half-volley, converting Kyle Walker’s lovely pass.

Aside from the goal, Foden ran the show, picking up the ball all across the pitch and making his mark in a more central position once again.

After a 10-man Manchester City defeated Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Shaun Goater was quizzed about Phil Foden putting yet another masterful showing this campaign.

“Again. We often say, ‘what position [is his best]?’ For me, anywhere on the field because he’s absolutely brilliant”, he said.

Phil Foden is at his best when handed positional freedom

As Shaun Goater touched on the constant discourse about where the fleet-footed attacker is at his best, this question was answered as Manchester City grinded out a victory against Nottingham Forest.

The answer is that while the treble-winner should largely occupy central zones, he should be given the freedom to pick up the ball anywhere and everywhere on the pitch.

This is simply because Foden is one of the select few players in the world who is comfortable in possession in every single phase of the pitch.

Be it picking up the ball right in front of City’s defence, carrying it to find a free man in the second phase or creating and scoring goals in the final third, he can do it all.

When Phil Foden is instructed to simply get on the ball and do what he does best anywhere on the pitch, he becomes virtually unplayable.
