It has been reported that Newcastle United have a realistic chance of signing Manchester City outcast Kalvin Phillips in January.
This comes from journalist Graeme Bailey on the Loaded Mag NUFC Show as he gave an insight into the £42 million (Sky Sports) man’s future at City.
Now, it seems like Kalvin Phillips could become a Newcastle United player in the January transfer window.
Journalist: Newcastle could sign Kalvin Phillips in January
Branded as ‘intelligent’ by Pep Guardiola, the 27-year-old has only started a mere game at the Etihad Stadium this season.
Despite having won the treble during his debut campaign, Phillips only started two Premier League games, which goes to show that he virtually has had no future at City for months on end now.
Graeme Bailey has now revealed that Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips could be set for a move to Newcastle in January after all.

“Ultimately, I think Kalvin Phillips is a long-term fit. I’ll play safe and say Kalvin Phillips for now. Let’s see how this PIF conversations go. He’s available, I don’t think any other Champions League club are in for him, Liverpool aren’t in for him, that’s not right and Manchester United won’t have Champions League football for much longer.”
High-time for Kalvin Phillips to leave Pep Guardiola’s side
At the end of the day, it would be best for Kalvin Phillips, Manchester City and Newcastle if the move was made official in January.
While some may argue that selling the Englishman would mean City have no backup for Rodri, it has seemed like that since last season.
Phillips is yet to have earned Guardiola’s trust as he has far from looked the part in the admittedly rare chances that he has got.
With Newcastle having to deal with Sandro Tonali’s 10-month ban, Kalvin Phillips could emerge as a solid, if not spectacular replacement for him.
As for the Sky Blues, they could offload Phillips and sign an upgrade as an understudy to Rodri in the winter window.
While the player himself could become a regular starter elsewhere and boost his chances of making the cut for England’s Euro 2024 squad.
