John Giles went as far as to say that Kevin De Bruyne was at his absolute best he has ever seen against Newcastle.
“Obviously, he’s [Kevin De Bruyne] done what he’s done in the past but he’s never done it as well, in my opinion as he did against Newcastle last week”, he said on The Stand with Eamon Dunphy.
It’s fair to say that the aforementioned opinion is quite an outlandish one, considering the catalogue of elite performances De Bruyne has under his belt.

As excellent as Kevin De Bruyne was against Newcastle, in our view, John Giles has missed out on several other games in which he was unstoppable.
For instance, against Wolves during the 2021/2022 season, the treble-winner became only the third midfielder to score four goals in a single game, joining Frank Lampard and Georginio Wijnaldum, as reported by Sky Sports.
In City’s 4-1 demolition job of Tottenham Hotspur in 2017 as well, while De Bruyne only had one goal to his name, his all-round display was arguably the best of his career.
During the Sky Blues’ 8-0 thrashing of Watford in 2019 as well, Kevin De Bruyne was a man possessed, registering a goal and two assists.
Simply put, De Bruyne’s list of world-class showings is endless, with many outshining his remarkable cameo against Newcastle.
