Manchester City are back to winning ways in the Premier League, record an important 3-1 victory over Everton at Goodison Park.
City were hoping that their victory at the Club World Cup was going to serve them well tonight on Merseyside.
But it looked as though City’s misfortune was going to continue when Jack Harrison had put the Toffees 1-0 up.
But City’s quality and character showed, with Phil Foden equalising, before Julian Alvarez then put City ahead from the penalty spot after Nathan Ake’s shot hit the outstretched arm of Abdoulaye Doucoure.
Bernardo Silva then took advantage of a poor clearance from Jordan Pickford, scoring with a fine curling finish.
During the second-half, Shearer heaped praise on goalscorer Phil Foden…
Alan Shearer hails Phil Foden as Manchester City beat Everton

In recent weeks, Foden has looked impressive for City, despite the team’s struggles as a collective.
For the most part, he has been operating centrally and the position seems to suit him just as much as out wide, if not more.
Shearer said on Amazon: “He’s so good Phil Foden with the ball at his feet. His touch when under pressure, and the control and balance and everything else. He’s a magnificent player.”
Shearer added in the 82nd minute, after Foden pulled a high ball out of the sky and then won possession back for City, ‘He’s been brilliant tonight’.
The Newcastle United legend then raved about Foden again when he awarded him the Man of the Match. He said: “They needed a bit of magic tonight to get back into the game. He provided that. The way he’s controlled that position, the 10 role, he’s done his work defensively as well. But it was that goal that got his team back (into it).
“Such a gifted player, wonderful player, always looks in control. Never fazed, never panics, he’s been superb in this second-half.”
Foden shining
City have been finding the going tough lately, but Foden is one City player who hasn’t really let his level drop.
Foden – who Joleon Lescott said recently has the same mentality as Wayne Rooney did – is simply an incredibly gifted talent and technician, and seeing him operate as a central attacking midfielder is a sight to behold at times.
One wonders how the return of Kevin De Bruyne could impact him, with the Belgian close to a return after starting training again.
It would be a crying shame if Pep Guardiola stopped giving Foden as many minutes in the middle.
