Manuel Akanji lavished praise on to Phil Foden for his exquisite showing for Manchester City in their 1-0 win against Newcastle United.
Speaking to Football on TNT Sports, the Swiss defender was quizzed about the 23-year-old’s display in midfield.
As everyone that tuned into the masterclass on show from Phil Foden against Newcastle United, Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji was also seriously impressed.
Manuel Akanji raves about Phil Foden after Manchester City beat Newcastle
Branded as ‘world-class’ by Joleon Lescott, the Englishman was a joy to watch in midfield, as he wreaked havoc against the Magpies on the half-turn and creating chances for fun.
It’s safe to say that Kevin De Bruyne’s absence was not felt on Saturday as the ‘Stockport Iniesta’ put in a world-class performance as his side’s central creator.
Now, Manuel Akanji lauded Phil Foden after Manchester City took home the all-important three points against Newcastle.

“I think Phil is so good, especially in the midfield. He’s so good with his back towards the goal, the way he turns, he moves in between the spaces and that’s what we saw again today. I hope he keeps on doing that this season!”
Phil Foden silenced his doubters
Against a Champions League side such as Newcastle as well, Phil Foden led Manchester City to victory, leaving Manuel Akanji and the rest of the world awestruck by his sublime display.
But there have been a fair share of doubters who have completely ignored context to judge Foden’s performances.
Be it injuries or the level of competition at City, several factors have meant that the treble-winner has found it a challenge to solidify his place in the middle of the park at the Etihad Stadium.
But on Saturday night, it is fair to say that Phil Foden reminded his critics of why he remains a special talent, pulling the strings against one of the most frightening teams in the Premier League in midfield.
Clearly, Foden is born to play as a midfielder and there is no stopping him in his natural position.
