Gary Neville has said that Manchester City lynchpin Rodri is the best defensive midfielder in the world bar none.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the popular pundit gave his two cents on the £63 million (Reuters) man.
Gary Neville showered Rodri with praise and highlighted his growth at Manchester City since his arrival in 2019.
Gary Neville says Rodri is the best defensive midfielder in the world ‘by a mile’
Branded as ‘truly elite’ by Breaking The Lines, some even believe that the 27-year-old is the standout midfielder in world football.
Since the 2021/2022 season, there is a strong argument to make for this as his form has been quite simply immaculate.
Now, Gary Neville has lauded Rodri for his remarkable consistency and improvement over the course of his time at Manchester City.

“I think Rodri’s been sensational for City for a couple of years now. The development in his game over a three, four, five-year period has been special. And he’s the best in his position by a mile.”
“It’ll be interesting to see in two weeks’ time if Arsenal are without Declan Rice because that’s the other big thing that’s happened today to Arsenal”, he added as the Spaniard has been suspended for the Sky Blues’ trip to the Emirates Stadium in October.
Rodri is the best midfielder in the world
While Gary Neville is spot on, it has reached a stage where Rodri cannot even be named in the same breath as some of the other top holding midfielders on the planet.
The treble-winner, described as ‘sensational’ by Jamie O’Hara is in a league of his own and for the last two seasons, there has not been a more in-form midfielder in the world than him.
While Rodri ticks all the necessary boxes one must to be regarded as an elite No.6, his frightening ball-carrying ability, improving eye for goal and growing final third threat makes him the most well-rounded player in the middle of the park in the game.
