Heurelho Gomes says £35m Man City player is definitely ‘more complete’ than Liverpool superstar

Heurelho Gomes has said that Ederson Moraes is a ‘more complete’ goalkeeper than Alisson Becker.

The former Tottenham Hotspur No.1 was quizzed about whether he would start the Manchester City stalwart over the Liverpool legend in goal for Brazil on talkSPORT .

The pair have been compared on numerous instances over the years, with Rio Ferdinand claiming in October that Ederson has the edge over Alisson.

For the national team, it seems like both goalkeepers get a fair stick in net, as both seem to get a reasonable number of chances to start and prove their worth.

But notably, at the Qatar World Cup, the Reds icon was his nation’s No.1.

However, Heurelho Gomes has sided with Ederson over Alisson due to his completeness.

“It’s a difficult question but I would go for Ederson. He’s more complete, I believe”, he told talkSPORT.

The retired goalkeeper was quizzed about whether Emiliano Martinez is better than both of them, to which he replied, “No. No, it’s not because of that [Emiliano Martinez being Argentine] and I like him as well. But I’m telling you, Ederson and Alisson are top, top goalkeepers.”

Heurelho Gomes went on to focus on the inch-perfect passing that Ederson brings to the table as opposed to Alisson, saying, “But Ederson is more complete. His passes from the back, the way Man City play, [they] use him very well, you know. Alisson is a bit more, I don’t know the word to put it to compare but I think Ederson is a better goalkeeper, more complete goalkeeper, not a better goalkeeper, more complete goalkeeper.”

It seems like this debate will continue to rage on in the coming months as both goalkeepers are having brilliant seasons for Manchester City and Liverpool respectively.

Ederson will elevate any team he starts for more than the Liverpool No.1

In our view, Heurelho Gomes is bang on the money as Ederson simply brings more to the table than Alisson.

While some may argue that the latter is a superior shotstopper, the former can help take a team’s style of play to a new level.

This is simply because Ederson, who signed for City in a deal worth £35 million (The Sun) in 2017 is a much better distributor of the ball than the former Roma goalkeeper, which is worth its weight in gold in the modern game.

As far as other aspects such as being a top ‘sweeper-keeper and claiming crosses come into play, both are on a level playing field.

With that in mind, it would be fair if Ederson pipped Alisson for a place in the Brazilian side in the future.
