‘Honestly’: Pundit says Man City don’t have a single player who could replace ‘phenomenal’ star at this point

Don Hutchison has said that no player at Manchester City is as irreplaceable as Rodri.

The treble-winner stole the headlines against Sheffield United after walloping in an 88th minute weak-footed winner to maintain City’s winning start to the season.

Don Hutchison, like many came to the conclusion (via Optus Sport) that not a single player at Manchester City can replace Rodri in their side.

Don Hutchison says Rodri is the most irreplaceable Manchester City player

Branded as ‘phenomenal’ by Danny Murphy, the 27-year-old had the most starts (52 starts) to his name after Lionel Messi (57 starts, 2011/2012 season) under Pep Guardiola in a single season during the previous campaign, as shared by Opta Joe.

While some may argue that Kalvin Phillips’ torrid time in sky blue could be a reason behind this, it is also imperative to stress that the Spaniard is the best defensive midfielder in the world by quite a distance.

Now, Don Hutchison believes that an injury to Rodri would dismantle Manchester City in a way that cannot be said for any other player that plays for them.

“I’ve got to say Manish [Bhasin], the more that the games and the weeks, and the seasons go on, and it’s always a debate and a topic when you try to think of the great players that Man City have got and you go, ‘I wonder who’s the one player they’d miss the most?’

Don Hutchison made the argument for Rodri being the most indispensable member of this Manchester City side, saying, “And I’m honestly leaning now towards Rodri. An injury to anyone else on the pitch, I think they’ve got cover. I think Pep’s [Guardiola] got loads of players that can cover different positions. But I think if there was ever an injury to Rodri…”

“He’s starting to become the player where if he got injured, I don’t think there’s another player on Man City’s books that plays the game, that plays the position like he plays it. He’s absolutely brilliant. He’s first-class.”
