How much Borussia Dortmund are ready to pay Man City to sign Yan Couto

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update about Manchester City right-back Yan Couto’s potential move to Borussia Dortmund.

Under a week ago, it was reported that Couto had agreed a move in principle to join Dortmund.

The 22-year-old justified the hype around his name for years during his loan spell at Girona last season — helping them finish in third place in La Liga and qualify for the Champions League.

In January, it was claimed that Couto was viewed by City as the long-term heir to Kyle Walker’s throne.

However, in June, it was reported that Manchester City are ready to offload the Brazilian.

Fabrizio Romano provides fresh Yan Couto to Borussia Dortmund update

The youngster is the modern-day full-back — more renowned for his eye for creating goalscoring opportunities and marauding forward than his defensive work.

In this respect, Couto is quite similar to Joao Cancelo.

But after three loan spells at Girona and Braga, it does not seem like he will make the cut in City’s first-team.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Borussia Dortmund have no intention to pay the €40 million (£33.1 million) release clause to sign Couto.

The German giants are willing to pay a fee in the region of €20 million (£16.8 million) to €25 million (£21 million) to wrap up a deal for the highly-rated right-back.

It has been claimed that Dortmund have contacted City to discuss the deal regarding Couto.

Man City should hold out for Yan Couto fee from Borussia Dortmund

With how young and talented Couto is, Manchester City would be justified in holding out to receive a bigger fee from Borussia Dortmund.

Simultaneously, with the Curitiba-born talent’s contract set to expire in 2025, it is understandable why Dortmund are hesitant to pay over such a fee.

However, City, as any selling club should test Nuri Sahin’s side’s resolve.

It will be interesting to see whether either of the clubs at the Etihad Stadium budge or whether they stick to their guns and a deal potentially breaks down.
