Jamie Carragher admitted he was surprised to discover Gary Neville decided not to pick Bernardo Silva in his Premier League Team of the Season so far.
The Liverpool legend deployed the Manchester City maestro alongside Cole Palmer and Declan Rice in his three-man midfield on Sky Sports (via YouTube, 01/01/2024).

However, Neville instead paired Rodri with Rice in his side.
Jamie Carragher shocked at Gary Neville for not picking Bernardo Silva in Premier League Team of the Season
It seems like Carragher in particular adores the £43 million (Telegraph) man, hailing him as one of the best signings made by City during the Guardiola era in October last year.
While saying so, the pundit also compared the Portuguese international to retired Manchester City legend David Silva.
As Bernardo Silva failed to make the cut in the Premier League Team of the Season selected by Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher was surprised.
“I can’t believe you’ve [Gary Neville] not picked Bernardo Silva, I just think he’s sensational, he is every season. He had to be in there”, he said on Sky Sports.
The Bernardo Silva factor would mean only one team would come out on top if they faced each other
Considering Gary Neville effectively picked four strikers in Erling Haaland, Mohamed Salah, Jarrod Bowen and Son Heung-min, Jamie Carragher would see his team beating his fellow pundit’s side due to his midfield having an extra body, especially with Bernardo Silva pulling the strings.
Neville’s double-pivot of Rodri and Rice would make life hell for any attack.
But Carragher’s midfield is far more balanced, with the Arsenal dynamo sitting behind the creative Palmer and the all-encompassing Bernardo Silva.
The former AS Monaco attacker would provide the balance in the middle of the park, both offensively and defensively in a manner that Gary Neville’s side lacks.
Having played alongside Cole Palmer at the Etihad Stadium and being much more experienced than Declan Rice, Bernardo Silva would likely be the perfect leader in the middle of the park.
It’s safe to say Jamie Carragher’s side would have an edge over Gary Neville’s team mainly due to the Bernardo Silva factor.
