James Trafford has now openly suggested that he could leave Manchester City in search of regular playing time.

While speaking to the Daily Mail, the 20-year-old, who was recently linked with a move to Burnley was quizzed about his future.

James Trafford, who has been on back-to-back loan spells at Bolton Wanderers has suggested that he would not hesitate to leave Manchester City in favour of becoming a No.1 elsewhere.

James Trafford suggests he could be open to Manchester City exit

The English goalkeeper has turned heads with his cracking displays at Bolton, with many lauding not just his shotstopping abilities but also how brilliant he is on the ball.

No wonder Pep Guardiola’s side tied the youngster down to a contract extension until 2027 in July last year, as he seems to have all the attributes to succeed Ederson Moraes in the future.

While James Trafford would seemingly be up to play his football at Manchester City, he has not closed the door on a transfer as well.

“My long-term goal is playing in the Champions League and for England If you want to be in the Champions League you’ve got to be in the top four teams in England.”

“Whether it’s Man City or any other of the big clubs, I believe I will be at that level. Given the opportunity I’d be able to perform”, Trafford said.

“The most important thing for goalies is to be playing and if you’re not playing it is really tough. Next season, I’ll play every week. I can’t sit on the bench.”

Ederson is unlikely to lose his place anytime soon

With Ederson looking at his absolute best last season and just being 29, which is young for a goalkeeper, perhaps James Trafford may have to take a leap of faith by leaving Manchester City after all.

The Brazilian international is the archetypal Pep Guardiola goalkeeper and is only getting better and better.

While Trafford could perhaps have a chance of starting over Ederson after Guardiola’s departure in 2025, that may be a risky decision to take after all.
