According to Simon Jordan, Manchester City should avoid paying as much as £100 million to wrap up a transfer for Declan Rice.

The controversial pundit made this claim on talkSPORT after it was reported on Thursday that City have now entered the race to sign him.

However, Simon Jordan firmly believes that Manchester City should set a cap on their price tag, if they aim to sign Declan Rice in the summer.

Simon Jordan believes Manchester City should avoid £100 million splash for Declan Rice transfer

Branded as ‘exceptional’ by Pep Guardiola himself on the club’s official website, it is clear to see that he is admired by the Sky Blues boss.

Unsurprisingly so, considering Rice is most certainly one of the best defensive midfielders in the entirety of the Premier League.

While Simon Jordan has not raised a question mark about the quality that Declan Rice possesses, he also does not believe Manchester City should match the fee they paid for Jack Grealish to sign him.

“If you’re starting at £80 million, you would naturally assume that you would start moving more significantly. You know my view, I don’t think it’s past £100 million quid.”

Manchester City do not need to break the bank in this case

Simon Jordan has a point, as Manchester City are not in need of a player like Declan Rice to pay such a significant fee.

The Sky Blues would be much more in need of a creative No.8 in the event that both Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva leave the club.

Rice, on the other hand profiles much more like a box-to-box midfielder at his best while also being a top-class No.6.

While a number of outgoings are expected from the club this summer, it is unlike City to just break the bank without almost no rhyme or reason.
