It has been claimed that Manchester City and Real Madrid are plotting a potential move for Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies.

This comes from journalist Graeme Bailey on 90 Min’s Talking Transfers podcast, after the Canadian skipper’s agent admitted in June that his client could leave the club before his contract expires in 2025.

Now, Manchester City seem ready to go toe-to-toe with Real Madrid to secure the services of Alphonso Davies.

Journalist: Manchester City set to battle Real Madrid to sign Alphonso Davies

Branded as an ‘elite full-back’ by the International Champions Cup’s official website, the 22-year-old is well and truly one of the best in the world.

Blessed with searing pace, incredible ball-carrying ability, a wand of a left peg as well as having one hell of a final ball on him, Davies is a truly extraordinary left-back.

Now, it seems like Manchester City could well try to lock horns with Real Madrid to sign Alphonso Davies in the summer.

“It’s a big decision coming up for him. He’s out of contract in 2025. He’s 22 now, he turns 23 later this year. It’s huge for him, primarily because he knows Real Madrid are in for him. Real Madrid are very keen on Alphonso Davies. We also understand that Man City and Chelsea both are keeping tabs or have asked to be kept in touch at the club’s behest”, he said.

“Can Real Madrid beat Alphonso Davies to the Premier League? We don’t know yet. We don’t know how far it’s gone. Obviously, Bayern think he might sign a new deal. I think he might decide to move on.”

“I’d be fascinated to see if he wants to come to England or wants to go to the Spanish capital.”

Alphonso Davies should make his way to the Etihad Stadium

Not to understate the draw of playing for Real Madrid but Manchester City are the best team in the world, which should give them the edge in the race to secure Alphonso Davies’ services.

With Carlo Ancelotti set to leave the Spanish giants as well next season, they could well undergo a transition period for a while.

The same cannot be said for City, with Guardiola being in charge of the club until at least 2025.

Joining one of the greatest teams of all time and having the opportunity to work with arguably the best manager in history, Davies should consider signing for the Sky Blues as a no-brainer.
