Pep Guardiola raves about ‘incredible’ Jeremy Doku

It was reported on Monday that the Spanish tactician has been internally surprised by witnessing the Belgian’s blockbuster start to life at the Etihad Stadium.

The former Rennes sensation lit up proceedings against West Ham, scoring a cracker of a goal while making life hell for the opposition defence with his quick feet and astute decision-making.

Now, Pep Guardiola has revealed why he was taken aback by the Jeremy Doku show at the London Stadium.

“When you are a winger against the full-backs and dribble, [it] is a chance. Sometimes to go back, [you] have to do it. Support for a winger to dribble to the byline is a chance. He does it a lot. That’s why I say I was impressed, we knew his quality but didn’t expect the ability to release”, he said.

Pep Guardiola elaborated on the unique talent that Jeremy Doku possesses, saying, “Julian [Alvarez], Erling [Haaland], Phil [Foden], go close to the box because this guy dribbles and they have to be there, an incredible threat.”

“For a long time, I didn’t see a performance of a winger going again and dribbling with his full-back. It won’t happen every week. He has the quality to do it, go, try do it.”

Jeremy Doku already looks like an absolute gem and under Pep Guardiola, the sky is well and truly the limit for him, especially if he manages to maintain his fast start to Premier League football.
