The Belgian international was a force to be reckoned with from start to finish, tormenting the Hammers’ defence, creating chances galore, linking play with astutely and making incisive runs in behind.

To cap off a sensational display, Doku bagged City’s equaliser, jinking past Coufal to slot the ball into the back of the net.

“When you buy a player like him for four or five years, I don’t know how many years we signed him for – we have to be patient. will be honest, I didn’t expect him to play for Man City the way he did today! Against Fulham he was deeper and close to Kyle [Walker] so today, he was higher.”

“There are processes he has to learn and all the time we are there to help him but he has to say, ‘I have to be myself as a player’, Pep Guardiola said about the Manchester City talent after his remarkable outing against West Ham.

Knowing how much of a perfectionist Guardiola is, it is a testament to the youngster’s magnificence that his exploits even manage to take the great man by surprise.
