Ian Wright claims ‘dangerous’ Man City player is ‘impossible’ to play against

Manchester City have multiple top-class players in their squad.

Having won four consecutive Premier League trophies as well as three major European titles over the past few years, this highlights the strength and quality Pep Guardiola has in his City ranks.

With two matches played in the 2024/25 league campaign, the Blues have won both of them, scoring six goals and conceding one.

Now though, one particular figure in the City squad has been backed to do something very special this season by a pundit who certainly knows what it takes to be a top player in the Premier League.

Ian Wright backs Erling Haaland to have another goal-filled season for Man City

Appearing in a recent edition of The Kelly and Wright Show by Premier League Productions (via Optus Sport), Ian Wright had this to say about Erling Haaland including how he has prepared himself for this season and how

He said: “I saw something the other day as well on social media about how he prepares and what he’s doing now and it’s almost like [Cristiano] Ronaldo-esque.

“Eating carrots and all the stuff he does it’s the preparation now that he’s putting into his game and obviously with the break he’s had the summer with Norway not qualifying for things he’s able to relax.

“He’s a dangerous element to every single team if he’s in this kind of mode and I know [Julian] Alvarez is gone but if he stays fit you can see another 40, 50 goals.

“We know that [Sergio] Aguero is a great goal scorer but this guy is a different animal in respect of goal scoring and wanting to score goals and it’s very difficult to stop him.

“His link-up play is getting better. He stretches teams if you’re not putting pressure on the midfield and your line’s high, he’s going over the top.

“The balls come in the box, he finds space in the box, there’s nowhere where you can stop him and then you’ve got the quality that he’s got coming towards him from [Kevin] De Bruyne and from Savinho, who looks really [Riyad] Mahrez-like, and like you mentioned [Ilkay] Gundogan coming back.

“He’s got all the elements around him that if he’s just focusing on wanting to score, it’s going to be near impossible to stop him.”

Haaland could have a star season for City once again

Wright isn’t the only former Arsenal star to discuss the Norway international’s goalscoring ability recently, as Ray Parlour backed Haaland to win a third consecutive Golden Boot this season.

In his first season at the Manchester club, Haaland bagged 52 goals in 53 games, firing City to their historic Treble.

The 24-year-old then followed that up by finding the back of the net 38 times in 45 matches across all competitions.

Having now scored four goals in City’s two opening games of the new league campaign, it’s easy to see why Wright thinks Haaland could have another goal-filled season.
