The Premier League has seen a plethora of top players feature in it since its inception.
One notable former top-flight star is Cristiano Ronaldo, who in two spells with Manchester United scored 103 goals and delivered 39 assists in 236 Premier League appearances.
Having won five Ballon d’Or’s in his career, the 39-year-old has had an unbelievable career and firmly established himself as one of the greatest players of all time.
Now though, from Manchester City’s point of view, a pundit and former top-flight star has made a claim that one player in Pep Guardiola’s side has what it takes to follow in Ronaldo’s footsteps.

Ian Wright backs Erling Haaland to reach Cristiano Ronaldo’s number of goals
In a recent edition of The Kelly & Wrighty Show by Premier League Productions (via Optus Sport), Ian Wright said this about Erling Haaland and how he compares to Ronaldo.
He said: “He’s already operating off the field like a Cristiano Ronaldo. That’s what Cristiano Ronaldo has spawned, players like that. And he’s doing in at 22, 23. If he carries on, he will score those goals.”
Haaland can achieve anything in football
This isn’t the first time a pundit and former Arsenal player has likened the 24-year-old’s goalscoring efforts to the Al Nassr star as Perry Groves said that Haaland’s goal statistics are on the same level as Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
With 284 senior club appearances to his name, the Norwegian has racked up 232 goals in total.
In comparison, Ronaldo has scored 763 goals in 1017 club games, comfortably making him one of the best goalscorers of all time.
Now that Wright has suggested that if Haaland continues to score goals in the way he has done recently he will reach the sort of goalscoring levels Ronaldo has, this showcases how much belief the pundit has in the City striker’s ability.
