Ian Wright knows a thing or two when it comes to scoring goals in the Premier League.
In 213 Premier League games, the former striker bagged 113 goals, three of which came across five matches against Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola’s side also know about finding the back of the net, as they scored more goals (96) than any other side in the Premier League last season as they became the first side to win four consecutive titles.
Having scored six goals across their opening two league matches of the new campaign, Wright has pinpointed one particular figure in the City squad and backed him to do something that no one in top-flight history has been able to do.

Ian Wright backs Erling Haaland to break a new goalscoring record at Man City this season
After seeing Erling Haaland score his tenth hat-trick for City in their win over Ipswich, Ian Wright had this to say in a recent edition of The Kelly and Wrighty Show by Premier League Productions (via Optus Sport) about what the striker could do this season that no other player has been able to previously.
He said: “I want to see him score six in a game. He’ll score six in a game if he stays on, especially in this mood he’s in, this form.”
Haaland has the ability to score six goals in one game
Wright isn’t the only pundit and former Arsenal star to make a claim about what the Norwegian could achieve in this campaign, as Ray Parlour recently backed Haaland to win a third consecutive Golden Boot this season.
Since joining the Manchester club back in 2022, the striker has found the back of the net 67 times in 68 Premier League games.
The most amount of goals the £375k-a-week striker scored in one league game for City is four which came during last season’s 5-1 victory against Wolves at the Etihad Stadium.
However, Haaland did manage to score five goals in City’s 7-0 win over RB Leipzig in the Champions League back in March 2023.
Taking all of that on board, it’s easy to see why Wright thinks the City star has the ability to make even more history and break another record by becoming the first player to ever score six goals in one league game.
