Manchester City have enjoyed some special seasons under the management of Pep Guardiola.

In addition to becoming the first side to reach 100 points in a Premier League season, City have also won four domestic trophies in one campaign, won the Treble and become the first side to lift four consecutive top-flight titles.

With Guardiola now having kicked off his ninth season at the Etihad Stadium, one pundit and former top-flight star has made an interesting claim about what the Manchester club could look to do in terms of an achievement they haven’t done yet.

Ian Wright suggests Man City could go invincible this season

Co-hosting a recent episode of The Kelly and Wrighty Show by Premier League Productions (via Optus Sport), Ian Wright said this about one thing City could look to achieve this season.

He said: “The only thing they’ve got left to do in the Premier League is be invincible.

“That frightens me because you look at them and you think to yourself the mode that they’re in, if they carry on they’re going to be very difficult to beat.

“You could see them probably doing an invincible thing.”

An invincible season would be special for City and Guardiola

The closest City have come to going a season unbeaten in the league under Guardiola came back in the 2017/18 campaign where the Blues only lost two games on their way to picking up 100 points.

As Wright will know, the only side to go unbeaten through an entire league campaign is Arsenal, who went unbeaten in the 2003/04 season after winning 26 and drawing 12 of their 38 games.

Therefore, if City were to tick off this particular achievement this season, not only would it see them make even more history by winning a fifth consecutive league title, but it would also see them crush a lot of Arsenal supporters in doing so.

However, with Guardiola admitting that seeing City break their own record of consecutive title wins doesn’t interest him as much as previous achievements, perhaps going for an invincible run could be the main aim this time around
