It has now been reported that Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan is closing in on a transfer to Barcelona.
This comes from Fabrizio Romano, after it was recently claimed that the £20 million (Guardian) man was ‘close to saying yes’ to a move to Xavi’s side.
Now, it seems Ilkay Gundogan is likely to bid farewell to Manchester City in favour of a transfer to Barcelona.
Fabrizio Romano: Ilkay Gundogan closing in on Barcelona transfer
Even at the end of last season, it was heavily speculated that the 32-year-old could have joined the Catalan juggernaut.
However, such was not the case, as Gundogan ended up staying at the Etihad Stadium and captained his side to a historic treble-winning campaign.
Now, it has been revealed that it is only a ‘matter of documents with La Liga’ in order for Barcelona to secure the signing of Ilkay Gundogan from Manchester City.

It has also been claimed that Xavi and Co. ‘plan to insist’ to get the deal over the line as the German international remains a ‘priority’ addition for them.
What a way to sign off at Manchester City for the talismanic midfielder
If indeed this is the end for Ilkay Gundogan at Manchester City, as Barcelona look set to become his next destination, he would have left the club on the perfect note.
Captaining this City side to an incredible treble-winning season whilst playing a massive role, especially during his incredible brace against Manchester United in the FA Cup final will be spoken about for years on end.
Once again, Gundogan reminded the world during the business end of the campaign that when it is time for players to step up and be counted, he stands up taller than most.
The silky technician leaves the club as an absolute legend and will go down in history as one of the Premier League’s greatest ever midfielders.
