Manchester City have become accustomed to winning titles over the past few years.
After winning the Treble which included their first Champions League title, City followed that up by becoming the first side to win four consecutive Premier League trophies.
In addition to the strength of their squad, the Manchester club’s successes are also down to the management of Pep Guardiola.
Having been at the Etihad Stadium since 2016, the Catalan is now in his ninth season in charge of the Blues.
With his side on the hunt to win even more silverware, one key player at the club has shared some details on how Guardiola tries to keep his side ahead of their rivals on a yearly basis.
Ilkay Gundogan shares Guardiola’s methods for City success
In a recent interview with the club shared on their official website, Ilkay Gundogan gave this explanation about what Guardiola aims to do with his players to keep them ahead of the curve.
He said: “With Pep and the type of play, every season there are a couple of small details in terms of adapting the approach.
“Every summer, Pep wants the opponents to not be able to read us 100% and always tries to adapt a couple of things.
“It depends on the quality of the players so that everyone can put his own strengths on the pitch and contribute in the best possible way as well.
“I think that’s why he’s the best manager in the world because he sees things that others don’t see and he can transmit onto the pitch in the best possible way.
“There was always a slight change. If you ask players this season compared to last year when I wasn’t here, there is probably another change in the small details.
“I’m used to it that there’s something he was adapting so it’s not a surprise for me.”
Ederson wowed by ‘innovative’ Guardiola
Gundogan isn’t the only City player to hail the Catalan, as Ederson praised Guardiola last year for the way he thinks about the game and how he’s able to get his players to get on the right track to deploy his ideas, saying this on the matter.
He said: “Pep is an innovative coach, a manager who is able to make teams play in the way that he thinks is best, in the way that he thinks is most productive for the team.
“Anything that he asks of the players, in any way that’s different from what we’re used to, we’ll work on it because we’ve spent a lot of time together, we have Pep’s DNA already, we know the way in which he works, so it’s not as difficult for us.”
Over eight years into his tenure as City’s manager, the 53-year-old has taken charge of 483 matches in all competitions.
Out of those games, the Blues have won 357, drawn 60 and lost 66.
With Gundogan now revealing that Guardiola is always looking to freshen things up to keep City ahead of other clubs, this highlights one of the reasons why he has been so successful in England.
However, with his contract at the club set to expire in the summer, the City supporters may have to make the most of having Guardiola in charge while they can.
