‘I’m not sure’: Michael Owen says PL club have made a real mistake regarding Man City

Michael Owen has suggested that he is not a fan of the fact that Chelsea sold Mateo Kovacic to Manchester City.

The popular pundit took to Twitter to express his thoughts, initially lauding Mauricio Pochettino’s side for ‘trimming their squad.’

However, as Mateo Kovacic has now signed for Manchester City, it seems like Michael Owen does not appreciate Chelsea doing business with a Premier League rival.

On the other hand, the Croatian international himself seems delighted to be in sky blue, expressing his excitement about playing under Pep Guardiola and alongside an ‘amazing player’ like Rodri.

However, the West London-based club have now sold one of the most well-rounded midfielders to a direct rival in City, who have just come back off winning the treble in Istanbul.

It seems like Michael Owen has made a suggestion that selling Mateo Kovacic to Chelsea, as well as Kai Havertz to Arsenal and potentially even Mason Mount to Manchester United is not smart business from Chelsea.

“Transfer window hotting up. Trimming their squad is exactly what Chelsea needed to do but I’m not sure they ought to be selling their players to teams like Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United.”

Manchester City should be all smiles

At the end of the day, whether one agrees or disagrees with Michael Owen, what can be said is that former Chelsea technician Mateo Kovacic seems like a fantastic fit at Manchester City.

The three-time Champions League winner’s well-rounded game makes him an incredible asset to this City side, especially as he is now in the prime of his career.

Often, injuries and an up-and-down Chelsea side have held back the 29-year-old’s progress.

But if Kovacic’s fitness and overall minutes are managed correctly, the Etihad Stadium could be witness to yet another midfield maestro.
