Manchester City defender Kyle Walker has said that Pep Guardiola is the best manager in the world.

Speaking to City’s official YouTube channel, the Englishman was quizzed about his decision to stay at the Etihad Stadium and extend his contract.

Kyle Walker said that one of the driving factors was to continue working with a manager of the ilk of Pep Guardiola.

Kyle Walker says Pep Guardiola is the best manager in the world

Branded as ‘unbelievable’ by Owen Hargreaves (via Manchester Evening News), the Catalan tactician further cemented his claim to be regarded as the greatest of all time by becoming the only coach to win two trebles in his career.

According to many, Guardiola is undoubtedly the standout manager to have ever graced the game, let alone numero uno on the planet, as Les Ferdinand said recently.

Initially, Kyle Walker revealed how meeting Pep Guardiola over dinner convinced him to stay at Manchester City.

“Obviously, footballing wise, I don’t think there’s a better team out there than Manchester City. But also, the manager, I think…the manager when we went out for food even before that, we’ve had a conversation and I just got the vibe that it’s something special and you should [stay].”

Kyle Walker went on to laud Pep Guardiola as he said, “As soon as you move from something great to then get back to that feeling or have those feelings that you were talking about where you’re winning cups, you’re winning trophies, you’re having so many special moments, to get that back again is hard. So, it came into part and to work with one of, if not the best manager in the world and I think this group of lads is something special.”

Pep Guardiola is in a league of his own

It is impossible to disagree with Kyle Walker as Pep Guardiola is simply in a tier of his own compared to his competitors.

In fact, in some ways, it seems like Guardiola has disciples galore in football currently, with names such as Arteta, Xavi and Ten Hag springing to mind.

The Spaniard’s trophy cabinet, tactical influence on the game, the completeness of his playing style and his constant evolution simply separates him from the rest.
