Gabby Agbonlahor has said that Manchester City may have been forced to sell Cole Palmer with Matheus Nunes set to join them now.

Speaking to talkSPORT, the pundit made this claim after Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Wednesday that the deal to sign the Wolves midfielder was set to cost City a fee of £47 million.

With Cole Palmer, who the Italian journalist claimed is set to join Chelsea for £45 million on the same day, Gabby Agbonlahor feels Manchester City had no choice but to approve of the sale with Matheus Nunes’ imminent arrival.

Many might naturally disagree as while Palmer is an out-and-out right-winger, Nunes is a central midfielder.

While the Englishman has played as an attacking midfielder at times, he looks at his silky best out wide, unlike the Portuguese international.

Aside from the deal to bring in Matheus Nunes, Gabby Agbonlahor initially pinpointed that Cole Palmer, branded as an ‘exceptional talent’ by Joleon Lescott was justified in his decision to leave Manchester City to sign for Chelsea.

“I think it totally makes sense, as Al [Alan Brazil] says. It shows that he wants to play, not just sit there and play the odd game for Man City. You look at Man City, in the centre-midfield, he’s not getting in there. Then you look at the front three. It’s [Jack] Grealish, [Phil] Foden, [Erling] Haaland, you’ve got [Jeremy] Doku, who you’ve just signed.”

“He’s probably looking at it like, ‘I don’t want to play the odd game in the cup or come on for 10 minutes.’ He walks into that Chelsea side.”

Gabby Agbonlahor went on to claim that Manchester City perhaps let Cole Palmer go to sign Matheus Nunes, saying, “So, if I’m Cole Palmer, it makes sense. And Man City as well, they probably have to sell now to bring in [Matheus] Nunes. So, for them, £45 million for Palmer, £55 million for Nunes, keeps them in the Financial Fair Play.”

While the financial details remain unknown, from a positional perspective, the pair simply play in two completely different positions.
