Branded as an ‘amazing’ midfielder by Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, the 37-year-old had one hell of a career.

“The magician. Thank you for all those wonderful moments, David. You were so special and it was an honour to share the pitch and the dressing room with you! Life isn’t so bad after football, more good times to come!”

David Silva should be remembered as a true footballing icon

Vincent Kompany could not have summed up the midfield maestro’s genius, as the confirmation of his retirement is heartbreaking news for and every football fan.

The veteran arrived at City when they were yet to have won a major trophy in decades and led to domestic domination by weaving his magic in the middle of the park.

Silva’s creative genius, unparalleled ability to control the tempo of a game, silky feet and impressive longevity made him one of the Premier League’s greatest ever players.

Whilst in La Liga and for the Spanish national team as well, David Silva was a force to be reckoned with as well.

As he has decided to hang up his boots, ‘El Mago’ should always be hailed as a true gift to the beautiful game itself.
