Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has admitted that he has no interest in losing Stefan Ortega to Bayern Munich.

Speaking to the press (via Manchester Evening News), the Catalan manager addressed the speculation head-on, after it was claimed on Tuesday that Thomas Tuchel’s side were interested in his signature.

Now, Pep Guardiola has kept a spade a spade and admitted that he would not like to see Manchester City No.2 Stefan Ortega sign for Bayern Munich.

Branded as ‘exceptional’ by Pep Guardiola (via Manchester City’s official website), the 30-year-old has been a revelation since joining the club last summer from Arminia Bielefeld.

Both as a shotstopper and in possession, the German has proven his worth as more than an able deputy, as exemplified by one of the biggest clubs in the world having their sights set on signing him.

But Pep Guardiola has come out and said that he would be far from happy to lose Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega to Bayern.

“It would be a problem to lose him, first for the quality. When we bring him here because [goalkeeping coach] Xabi Mancisidor sent me clips and said he was a ‘keeper we need.”

“He played for a team relegated from the Bundesliga and from day one I said what a ‘keeper we have. You know how many saves he makes in important games. We don’t want to lose him.”

Manchester City tactician Pep Guardiola concluded his stance regarding Stefan Ortega and his potential move to Bayern by saying, “We need him but like in many cases it depends on three parts. If we lose Stefan two weeks out of the market [closing], we have to go to pick up a ‘keeper and it’s not easy now. It’s not easy. We want him.”

At the end of the day, Manchester City should listen to Pep Guardiola and stop the treble-winner from joining Bayern as there is far too less time in the window to find an adequate replacement for him.
