Manchester City rounded off their pre-season tour of the US with a good win over Chelsea, with James McAtee left very impressed by one teammate.

Pep Guardiola‘s side have now flown back to the UK after playing four matches out in the US.

The manager was without many of his key stars for the tour. But he was still able to cast his eye over some of the club’s emerging talents.

One player who has very much impressed is James McAtee, who started once more in the 4-2 win over Chelsea last night in Colombus Ohio.

After the game, Pep confirmed that McAtee and his fellow youngster Nico O’Reilly will both be first-team options next season.

Someone else who has seriously impressed is Oscar Bobb, with McAtee sending him a message after last night’s game.

Bobb was promoted to the City first-team last season, and made 26 appearances across all competitions.

He was broken in gently by Pep, and impressed most times he took to the field. His highlight was undoubtedly when he scored the injury-time winner away at Newcastle United in January.

It has been clear that Bobb has exciting potential. But he has taken his game to another level in pre-season, with Joleon Lescott recently describing him as the ‘standout performer’ of the tour.

Shaun Wright-Phillips reckons there is potential with him to become another ‘masterpiece’ at City under Pep, and fans are certainly getting excited.

Bobb posted on Instagram earlier today following last night’s 4-2 win over Chelsea, in which he scored a lovely goal.

The man to provide the assist on that goal was McAtee – and the quality of Bobb certainly isn’t lost on him.

Bobb could explode in 24/25

City fans are rightly getting very excited about Bobb heading into the new season.

He has looked so threatening in pre-season so far, and the Norway international looks ready for a greater role in the first-team now.

The signs were there last season. But the absence of key stars on the pre-season tour has allowed him the opportunities to thrive.

He will surely start against Manchester United in the Community Shield, and it would be amazing to see him starting the Premier League season as the first-choice right winger.

He’s worked very hard for his chances, and he should now get a show of faith from Pep.
