James McAtee could do what only six other Man City stars have done before him this summer

This summer is big for the career of James McAtee as Man City star needs to make a decision on his future.

The midfielder has one year remaining on his current deal at the Etihad Stadium and with the 22-year-old not being a key part of next season’s plans, the Manchester club are likely to cash in this summer, although Pep Guardiola is keen for McAtee to stay.

The Englishman will want more gametime and that is what other clubs are offering him as Bayer Leverkusen are showing interest in McAtee, while Nottingham Forest are also keen on signing the Man City star.

According to the Telegraph, both clubs remain interested in McAtee should Man City sign Florian Wirtz or Morgan Gibbs-White, while Man United, Newcastle and AC Milan are among the other clubs monitoring the midfielder’s situation.

A move to the Red Devils would be a big story this summer as McAtee would become only the seventh player to play for both Man City and Man United.

Carlos Tevez is arguably the most famous case of a player to play for both Man City and Man United, as his move to the Etihad Stadium did not go down well with fans on the red side of Manchester having played 99 games across two seasons for the Red Devils.

The Argentina star would move to Man City in 2009 and would go on to play a key role in the Manchester club winning their first Premier League title in 2012, while also adding an FA Cup to his collection in 2011.

Teves featured in 148 games for City across four seasons, producing 73 goals and 32 assists, winning the Premier League’s Golden Boot during the 2010/11 campaign.

Andy Cole made his name at Man United as the forward was part of some legendary teams at Old Trafford throughout the six years he played on the red side of Manchester.

The Englishman featured in 275 games for United, winning multiple Premier Leagues and the Champions League between 1995 and 2001.

Cole would join City for the 2005/06 campaign, where he would play in 23 games for the Citizens, scoring 10 goals and assisting a further four.

Just like Cole, Peter Schmeichel made his name at Man United having been part of the same teams as the English striker between 1991 and 1999.

The Danish goalkeeper is a United legend and is considered the greatest goalkeeper to ever play in the Premier League having made 398 appearances for the Red Devils.

Schmeichel ran the risk of ruining that legacy in 2002 by moving to Man City, where he would retire from football after playing 31 matches in sky blue.

The other names to have played for both Man City and Man United are Owen Hargreaves, Andrei Kanchelskis and Terry Cooke.

Hargreaves is the most well-known star to English football fans, given his punditry work on UK television, while having racked up 43 appearances for both Manchester clubs.

This is the list McAtee could be joining this summer, although a move to Old Trafford is not the likely option the Manchester City midfielder goes for ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
