Jamie Carragher has now contradicted himself on Manchester City No.92 Micah Hamilton after his comments regarding Liverpool No.7 Luis Diaz.

The 45-year-old made the remark on Sky Sports after Liverpool’s 4-2 win over Newcastle on New Year’s Day.

So, what did Jamie Carragher say? Let’s take a look…

Jamie Carragher contradicts himself on Micah Hamilton

Well, the Liverpool legend questioned the manner in which Hamilton went down, after being fouled in Manchester City’s 3-2 UEFA Champions League win over Red Star Belgrade.

The 20-year-old was awarded a penalty, but Carragher described the nature in which he hit the deck as a “horrendous” dive.

Speaking on CBS Sports, he said: “There was one thing I did not like tonight. He’s got to get it out of his game. That is a horrific, horrendous dive. Look at that, he throws himself to the floor. It’s very theatric. We don’t want to see it, especially from a young player.”

However, when asked if Diaz made a conscious decision to go down after a clumsy challenge from Sven Botman, Carragher said: “I think he does, yes. I think he’s right. If you try and stay on your feet and you can’t get that shot off, the referee will say, well you stayed up. Even if you’re a Newcastle supporter, you’d want your own player to do that.”

Very contradictory – to say the least.

Manchester City wonderkid deserves clarity

It must be noted that Carragher’s initial comment about Hamilton appeared to be made tongue in cheek, as he built the scene up to show a previous dive from Micah Richards.

However, the man from Bootle never set the record straight, leading many to assume he stood by his statement on the City Football Academy graduate.

It was unfair of Carragher to say those things about Hamilton following his outstanding senior debut – in which he also scored the opener – even if the comments were made in jest.

Hopefully, Hamilton did not take offence, and does not feel his integrity was brought into question.
