Jamie Carragher believes Bernardo Silva has been better than Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn this season.
The pundit sided with the Manchester City attacker keeping his place in his Premier League Team of the Season after a user on Twitter felt he made a mistake by excluding McGinn from his side.
Jamie Carragher seems to rate the £43.6 million (Guardian) man extremely highly, hailing him as “sensational” while lauding his consistency for years on end now.
Jamie Carragher says Bernardo Silva has been better than John McGinn
John McGinn, much like several of his teammates at Aston Villa have been praised for their outstanding performances this season.
The Villains are placed as high as second place in the league table, albeit having played one more game than third-placed City, who are three points behind them.
Initially, Jamie Carragher asked Aston Villa fans which player’s omission from his Premier League Team of the Season they felt needed to be corrected, as he received a reply saying, “I’m not [a] Villa fan but McGinn has been key for everything that Villa have been doing. What a player he is.”

Carragher acknowledged his points about McGinn but gave his brief opinion about whether he can start over Bernardo Silva, saying, “I know but has he been better than Bernardo Silva.”
Bernardo Silva has played at a higher level than the Aston Villa talisman in midfield
Jamie Carragher may have sided with Bernardo Silva over John McGinn due to the sheer standard of his performances in midfield.
After all, in several matches this campaign, Pep Guardiola has deployed the Portuguese maestro as a right winger. John McGinn, however, has largely played in a wider midfield role for Villa.
While McGinn may also have had a more consistent campaign so far, Bernardo Silva’s performances in the middle of the park have been at a level that is a reminder of why he is a truly elite player.
As a result, one can understand Jamie Carragher’s rationale.
