Jamie Carragher shares his honest verdict on Erling Haaland’s display in Man City’s 0-0 draw vs Inter Milan

Despite being favourites heading into the contets, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side shared the spoils with Inter Milan in a 0-0 draw.

As City drew to Inter Milan, they did so for the first time in five years in a Champions League group game at the Etihad Stadium.

While the result was ultimately a scoreless draw, both sides had plenty of chances to take the lead.

Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva missed gilt-edged chances for Manchester City while Matteo Darmian and Henrikh Mkhitaryan did the same for Inter Milan.

Both Pep Guardiola and Simone Inzaghi would have been left wondering what could have been if their players took their chances.

But it seems like both elite teams cancelled each other out on Wednesday night.

Carragher says Man City superstar was “quiet” against Inter Milan

Erling Haaland only took two shots during the contest.

One of them was a header that he directed straight down the middle.

The second one was a shot on the edge of the box that was slightly wayward.

The £51 million man managed not to score for the first time in any game during the 2024/2025 season.

Jamie Carragher felt Haaland was rather uninvolved for Manchester City as they were held to a draw against Inter Milan.

On CBS Sports, Carragher said: “I think it’s interesting watching [Erling] Haaland, he’s probably been the best player in the Premier League by a long way this season. But that’s the first game where we haven’t really seen him that involved in the game.”

“That’s probably the only thing we can remember him doing and that goes back to what we’ve said in the last couple of years even in this competition when he’s up against the real, that’s elite, what he’s been up against tonight.”

“That is some of the best defenders in European football. But it was another similar night we’ve sort of seen in the Champions League, in semi-finals and finals that he had against Internazionale couple of years ago.”

Erling Haaland did not have much service against Inter Milan

While Carragher is right in stating that Haaland had a quiet game, he did not get much service against Inter Milan.

Any striker that is starved of service will struggle to have a major impact against a top side like the Italian giants.

Manchester City were rather lively in the final third at the Etihad Stadium.

But unlike in their previous games this season, they struggle to pick Haaland out.

The 24-year-old’s display should not necessarily be under the microscope and instead, that of his teammates in place to carve chances out for him should be discussed.

However, being the elite player he is, Haaland will likely look within and assess where he could have done better.
