On form, a case can be made that Phil Foden is England’s best player.
However, the talent at Gareth Southgate’s disposal would be the envy of most managers in world football — with most of his players having a certain characteristic that sets them apart from the rest.

For instance, a player like Marcus Rashford, who struggled with his form last season might be the best player the country has on the counter.
Similarly, Declan Rice’s athleticism is up there with any other midfielder in the world, let alone just out of his countrymen.
When building the perfect England player, Jill Scott opted for Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden when asked to pick a current player’s left foot.

In our view, Jill Scott picked the correct English player in this instance as Phil Foden has a wand of a left foot on him.
The other left-footers at England’s disposal include Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer, Jarrod Bowen, Jarrad Branthwaite and Luke Shaw to name a few.
All the aforementioned players have an excellent left peg on them.
Only the likes of Saka and Palmer are perhaps as skilful and technically gifted as City’s number 47.
But especially during the 2023/2024 season, Phil Foden showcased he has a wondrous left foot with the number of belters he scored.
Foden’s brace against Manchester United, his equaliser against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final, his opener against West Ham on the final day of the season; the list goes on and on.
In terms of the Stockport-born midfielder’s dribbling as well, his ability to weave past players both in central areas and out wide at pace is superior to the likes of Saka and Palmer.
The 24-year-old’s first touch, especially with his left foot is virtually faultless as Scott’s case strengthens the more it is analysed.
Phil Foden would be proud to hear that the likes of Jill Scott and Joe Cole believe his left foot is the best of the best out of any Englishman.
