Manchester City won the Champions League last night – and Joao Cancelo has today reacted on his Instagram.

Pep Guardiola’s side completed an historic Treble, beating Inter in Istanbul 1-0 following victory in the Premier League and FA Cup.

Rodri got the only goal in the second-half.

It came after City had struggled to break Inter down in the game.

Simon Inzaghi’s side came with a plan to frustrate, and they worked very hard on the night. Their pressing was good, and City were forced into being sloppy at times.

But Rodri popped up with the decisive goal, and City held on to finally win the trophy that has long eluded them.

Many people in football, including high profile figures, have sent their congratulations to City on their amazing achievement.

And today, Cancelo sent a message.

Joao Cancelo congratulates Man City on Champions League win on Instagram

Cancelo’s reaction to City winning the Champions League was always going to be quite interesting.

We have all been led to believe that he did not leave the Etihad in January on particularly good terms. Even though both Cancelo and Pep Guardiola have played the situation down publicly.

This morning, Cancelo made two posts that were absolutely nothing to do with City.

One was of his dog, and the other was a post he shared about UFC.

Some were wondering if Cancelo was just going to ignore City winning the Champions League.

But he has now messaged, writing four words (minus club tag) on his Story: “Congrats @mancity (salute emoji) you deserve it (clapping emoji).”

Fair play to Joao Cancelo for his message to Manchester City after Champions League triumph

It is good to see Cancelo publicly congratulating his parent club on their Champions League.

Whatever has gone on with him, at least he hasn’t just ignored the club’s amazing achievement.

Ultimately Cancelo played in the Champions League for City this season. He actually made four assists for the club in the group stages.

But then he left to join Bayern Munich, whom City put out of the competition in the quarter-finals.

Despite that, Cancelo will likely still get a winners medal.
