John Stones shares how Rodri reacted to the severity of his injury for Man City

Manchester City fans are still very much processing the news that Rodri has sustained knee ligament damage.

The Spaniard went down during the recent Premier League game with Arsenal and supporters immediately knew he had done something serious.

Rodri received treatment for several minutes. He then hobbled off, which some people took as a good sign.

But it was then reported days later that Rodri had torn his ACL, and Manchester City confirmed knee ligament damage last week. The player has already had surgery, and the long road to recovery has now begun.

An injury of this nature would be a lot for anyone to take in.

Yesterday, ahead of City’s clash with Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League, John Stones shared how Rodri was feeling after learning of his awful setback.

Stones faced reporters yesterday ahead of City’s game with Slovan tonight.

City are looking to get their first win in the Champions League after being held by Inter at the Etihad Stadium a couple of weeks ago.

Erling Haaland is fit after shaking off the knocks he picked up against Newcastle United at the weekend.

But Rodri, of course, will play no part.

And he will play no part for the foreseeable future, with Stones describing the situation yesterday as ‘sad’.

The England international said that he is ‘100%’ ready to step into midfield if called upon, and that is definitely something we could be seeing.

Stones also spoke about how Rodri took the news, saying: “He was good, in good spirits. I think now he knows what’s happened and knows his process to get back, he’s come to terms with it and he seemed in good spirits, which I’m glad.

“Obviously we check in, I think he’s over in Spain with his family. He needs to take some time now and relax and recover the best he can.”

Rodri has the mental strength to cope

It is a terrible thing for any footballer to sustain an ACL injury.

It is one of the worst injuries you can pick up, as it means a long lay-off and the rehab is said to be gruelling.

On top of that, there are also no guarantees players will be the same when they return to action.

It can be a lot to process, but fans will back Rodri to return stronger.

One thing about him is that he has a very strong mentality, and someone who has a great sense of perspective, which was recently evident when he spoke about his reasons for not being on social media.

Rodri has a solid support system and seems to be someone who has everything in place in his life so hopefully, all will go well with his recovery.
