Man City fans absolutely love Rodri’s explanation for why he doesn’t use social media

Rodri is quite possibly Manchester City’s most important player – and he is also an extremely likable person.

Manchester City fans are yet to see him in action this season, after he was the final first-team player to return to the club ahead of the new season following his exploits for Spain at Euro 2024.

Rodri was instrumental for his country as they won in Germany, and this was reflected by the fact he won Player of the Tournament.

It was yet another acknowledgment of his brilliance, which has been plain for all to see over the last two or three years now.

Rodri is undoubtedly the best player in the world in his position, and he is someone fans are hoping will potentially see out the rest of his career with the club.

Real Madrid are thought to be interested in him, which was perhaps inevitable. But Rodri is currently very happy at the Etihad, and City are thought to want to hand him an improved contract.

Hopefully that will happen soon, because Rodri is immense.

And one of the reasons he is so immense, is because of his mentality and focus. He’s a master of his craft, because he has got everything right away from football. Everything in his life is in order for him to succeed, and Rodri has finally spoken about one thing he has been known for for quite a while.

Social media is absolutely huge in football today.

Fans are all over it, and a lot of professional players are too.

But not Rodri. The 28-year-old has always steered clear of the internet and has no desire to get on social media anytime soon. He told Joe Hart on Football Focus recently: “Not being on social media? It’s a decision I made very, very early.

“It wasn’t normal for a kid my age to have that personality to say ‘No’, because normally you do what the other kids do. I remember my age was the start of smartphones; I said ‘I don’t need it, I have my friends, I can go to the park, I can hang with them’, I don’t need to find new friends on the internet.

“The problem today in society is they kind of tell you ‘You need this, you need this, you need this’ and in the end you think ‘Do I need all of these things? No, I don’t really need these things’. I like to live life how it is – the real life. I have met you and we are chilling here today in real life – rather than you messaging me – the relationships face to face are the real ones!”

Man City fans love Rodri’s reasoning

Predictably, Rodri’s comments have gone down very well indeed with many City fans.

Plenty feel that it is now obvious why Rodri is such a brilliant footballer.

Some City fans also couldn’t help but feel as though Rodri’s perspective of social media makes him brilliant captain material.

Of course, at the moment, Kyle Walker is the club captain after a vote last summer by the players.

But some fans would love to see Rodri wear the armband someday.

Rodri is exemplary

City are truly lucky to have a player like Rodri, and it is clear to see why he is so good at what he does.

Yes, he is an amazing footballer for having worked so far on the training pitch. But his mentality counts for so much.

He does not concern himself with social media and he is able to fully focus on football and much more important things in life as a result.

At the moment, there are many people hoping to see him win the Ballon d’Or. It has been suggested that Rodri would not be a ‘fashionable’ winner, with his lack of social media use potentially counting against him (somehow). Alvaro Morata even joked he would have to make him an Instagram account to boost his chances.

If there was any justice, Rodri will be the next winner of the Ballon d’Or regardless of anything else.
