Jose Mourinho interested in signing £25m Man City player, he’s top of his wanted list

Jose Mourinho is reportedly hopeful of signing one Manchester City player this summer, with the club open to selling.

It’s been a quiet summer so far at the Etihad Stadium, with just one player coming in and a handful of fringe and young players departing.

There’s been speculation over the likes of Ederson and Kevin De Bruyne, both of whom are targets for the Saudi Pro League.

De Bruyne looks to be staying now. But talk continues about Ederson, who didn’t have the best of outings in last night’s friendly against AC Milan.

But another player who could potentially be on his way out this summer is Mateo Kovacic, who is wanted by Fenerbahce.

It has been reported by The Sun (28/07, pg. 57) that Mateo Kovacic is a target for Jose Mourinho, who became Fenerbahce manager earlier this summer.

The Portuguese is said to want to make the Croatia international his ‘marquee’ summer signing.

Apparently, City would be open to selling Kovacic if they received an offer of £25 million, which is the amount the club initially bought him from Chelsea for.

He is top of Mourinho’s list, and it is interesting because Kovacic has joined a Mourinho club three times but never actually played under him.

He’s been at Inter, Real Madrid and Chelsea, but each time, Mourinho had left just before Kovacic arrived.

Kovacic exit could help Matheus Nunes

Citynwould be right to listen to offers for Kovacic.

While he did have a decent first season at City, he didn’t really blow people away too often. If Fenerbahce did come in and offer what City initially paid then perhaps a sale should be considered.

And if Kovacic – branded ‘an unbelievable player’ last season by Jack Grealish – did leave, then that could open the door for Matheus Nunes to have a bit more prominence at the Etihad.

Nunes struggled for minutes in his first season at the club with Kovacic much preferred by Pep Guardiola. There is a talented player there, but the consistency just hasn’t been. If Kovacic left though, perhaps there would be more opportunities for him to build momentum.
