As per an update provided by Sky reporter Florian Plettenburg, Manchester City held talks to sign Rafael Leao at the World Cup.
While the Sky Blues have been constantly linked with midfielders such as Jude Bellingham and Nicolo Rovella, the club is truly in desperate need of a brand-new winger.
A majority of the City fanbase will agree that Riyad Mahrez’s form has fallen off a cliff since the backend of last season.
As for Phil Foden and Jack Grealish, the pair profile more as natural attacking midfielders than widemen.
While Cole Palmer is a gifted winger, he is yet to become a regular starter at the Etihad Stadium.
Keeping the aforementioned factors in mind, the Premier League champions bring in a new wide forward in the summer.
Leao to City is being discussed
As per the latest information provided by Sky reporter Florian Plettenburg, Manchester City held talks to complete a deal for Rafael Leao at the World Cup.
It has also been claimed that the Portuguese international is dissatisfied with the contract extension offer on the table from AC Milan.
As a result, the 23-year-old wishes not to extend his contract with the Serie A giants currently.
AC Milan will let Leao go, only if any interested suitor triggers the €150 million (£128.7 million) release clause to sign him in the summer.
It has been stated that while Chelsea attempted to sign the sought-after winger for €70 million (£60 million), their offer was rejected by Stefano Pioli’s side.
Pep Guardiola’s side are in competition with the likes of the Blues as well as Real Madrid to sign the electric winger.
As Guardiola renewed his contract at City till 2025 recently, one has to wait and assess whether the club reward his loyalty by paying the big bucks to sign Leao.
