Manchester City have seen several players join some other big European clubs over previous years.
For example, in 2020, Leroy Sane joined Bayern Munich after spending four years in Pep Guardiola’s side.
After that, Ferran Torres joined Barcelona in the 2022 January transfer window after arriving at the Etihad Stadium in the summer of 2020.
In this current summer window, another attacking player has found himself being linked with a move to one of Europe’s big clubs and could follow in Sane and Torres’ footsteps.

Atletico Madrid aiming to reach an agreement with Man City to sign Julian Alvarez
Following previous reports that Atletico Madrid have an interest in signing Julian Alvarez this summer, journalist Cesar Luis Merlo has now shared a significant update on the matter in a recent post shared on his X account.
He said: “Atletico de Madrid has advanced negotiations to sign Julian Alvarez. There have already been several meetings with the player’s entourage and they are seeking to reach an agreement with Manchester City. If given, your contract will be for 5 years. [Diego] Simeone specially requested it.”
Atletico would need to pay a big fee for Alvarez
In two seasons at City, Alvarez has made 103 appearances across all competitions, finding the back of the net 36 times, delivering 18 assists and winning multiple trophies along the way.
Having appeared in more Premier League games (36) than any other City player last season, this shows how important the striker is for his side.
However, earlier this week, the 24-year-old admitted that he was frustrated that he didn’t start some of City’s biggest games last season.
In our view, given his attacking talent, the fact that his versatility makes him a useful figure for Pep Guardiola and the fact that his current contract isn’t set to expire until 2028, we feel that Atletico will need to stump up a significant transfer fee if they want to convince City to sell Alvarez this summer.
